And a screen name referencing a David Cross character from the 90s. Massive props on that one.
Mr. Show was awesome.

Don’t call it autopilot, problem solved. The name tricks idiots.
I wonder how many MBs with Distronic Plus are being blindly crashed into solid objects because the driver thought it could drive itself.

I personally find all of this stuff stupid.
I don’t even use cruise control. I didn’t even use it until this year.

But “Really sophisticated cruise control” doesn’t have quite the same ring to it.

I disagree. Even if Autopilot and all the equivalent systems suck, all they have to do is be better than us. There is no evidence that a person wouldn’t have crashed in that scenario.
A 10% reduction in crashes due to the use of a flawed system is still better than not using said system just because it crashes on occasion. People crash all the time. We don’t call for banning non-professional drivers and putting everyone on planes, trains, and buses.

Call it “supercruise” and it still sounds catchy without sounding like the car drives itself.

The dorks in the cult might not think that’s wild enough, though. A self-driving car is what they want, logic has no place in it.
His Stigness suggested “Deathpilot”, which might be close to accurate.

Idiots will abuse it no matter what it is called, and it is very obtuse to try to use the name as an excuse for their behavior. It’s just a classic example of the internet grabbing a pitchfork and jumping on the bandwagon.
Automation will never achieve real would success unless it receives real world trials. And it will never be perfect, but I would say that it is already better that ~75% of people on the road today.

If that’s the case, make it standard on all models, with a big blinking button :)

Obtuse? Nice opinion, nothing more.
Like I said, I wonder how many MBs with Distronic Plus are being blindly crashed into solid objects because the driver thought it could drive itself.
It’s not autopilot, it’s not autonomous, but the maker wants to impress overmonied drones, and the cultish base want to believe in fairytales.

You are the worst then, and I will possibly road rage at your inability to maintain a consistent speed fucking with my cruise setting.

I don’t know. What are the numbers for automation miles per incident for Tesla/Caddy/MB/Uber/etc.?
I would guess that at ~300k vehicles Tesla has more automation capable units in service than all the other players combined. They are the biggest media target which makes them the biggest target for criticism on the internet and the biggest target for “fanboyism”.
How about we start putting some blame on the morons who abuse the system and repeatedly ignore audible and visual warnings that they need to take control of the vehicle.

No idea, I’ve read of nothing nor heard of anything anecdotally of drivers of those other cars smashing it up because they were too stupid to grasp the capabilities of the car.
Most S-class since W222 have Distronic, so that number might not be solid.I don’t buy into the media conspiracy, sorry.
The morons are abusing the system because they (the same people who had a microwave and VCR blinking 12:00 in 1985) are fooled by a seductive name given to a mere partially autonomous system by a flamboyant yet dull automaker. Blame ‘em both.

Come to think of it, I feel bad if you can’t maintain your speed without cruise control.

Wow man, if you road rage because someone wants to use
a different
input to control their speed, I really think you shouldn’t be allowed to drive, or make legal decisions... have you thought of getting a guardianship? I bet your legal guardian could fathom how to use a gas pedal.

Sorry, my level of rage must not be on the same level as every one else.
I’m saying I’m likely to throw the double birds while MF’ing him under my breath.
And only if he is unable to maintain a consistent speed due to his ‘superiorness’ over his standard equipped cruise control. It’s equivalent to the entitled individual that sits in the left lane of the highway going 5mph under, just because they can.

No it isn’t.
Highways have maximum limts, and a very forgiving minimum speed in some cases.
If someone wants to do 65 in the slow lane, its fine... if someone wants to do 65 in the passing lane... thats really bad.
